Is financial support available?
Yes! Thanks to a generous donor, financial support is available to Davidson students. On the application, please indicate your interest in receiving financial support. Students who qualify may attend free of charge, Awards will be decided in consultation with the department of Financial Aid.
Do I need to have coding experience?
No! This program is designed for students with little to no coding experience. If you’ve had minimal exposure to coding and want to deepen your understanding, this is a good fit. If you took an intro CS course and want to give it another try in an immersive learning design, this program is a good fit.
How will mentoring opportunities work?
You will be connected with San Francisco area alumni for 1:1 professional and/or technical mentoring. You will also have the opportunity to visit startups and companies where alumni work. And, you will be invited to alumni social gatherings during your time in San Francisco.
What kind of student are you looking for?
We're looking for students (like you) who have an itch to scratch - who have found themselves wondering what it would be like to create with computers instead of only using them. This course is a bridge to that world. You will explore technology from several angles and leaving you feeling more capable and literate in all things technical. By the end, you will have a few small projects to share with friends or family but, more importantly, you will leave with no fear or hesitation when it comes to following your whims with technology.
Who will be teaching the program?
Three outstanding faculty are collaborating to deliver this immersive and place-based learning experience. Dr. Raghu Ramanujan (Davidson College), Dr. Owen Mundy (Davidson College), and Sherif Abushadi (Adjacent). Together they are designing, delivering, and evaluating a unique and exciting program. What academic credit will I receive?
Davidson students will receive credit for CIS 121 and DIG 245. If you want to place into CSC 121 after this program, you may contact the Computer Science department to discuss a placement assessment. Pending a successful assessment, you will be eligible to receive credit for CSC 121.
What expenses are covered by the program fee?
Tuition, housing, and all meals 5 days/week are covered by the program fee. Area alumni will host two weekend dinners at the start and end of your session.
What expenses am I responsible for covering on my own?
Expenses may vary depending on your financial support award. These will be outlined in your acceptance package.
Will I have an opportunity to place out of CS 121 after this experience?
Yes. To place out, you will need to pass an assessment with Computer Science faculty. You can do this when you return to campus in the Fall.
Will I have time for a part time job?
Yes. The session is 6 weeks, which allows time in the summer for other opportunities. The program is intensive, which would not allow time for a part-time job during the session.
What kinds of networking opportunities will there be?
You will have access to Davidson alumni and Silicon Valley startup and industry speakers. You will also receive mentoring and guidance on how to network effectively, as part of your learning experience. These opportunities reflect a key value of place-based learning, and are a high priority for the design of the program.
